Drinking Wine Every Night? Here's What It Does to You — Eat This Not That

Wine is one of the stiffest drinks to make well due to the local ingredients and grape-growing circumstances, and the most coveted vintages have sold for enormous sums of money throughout the years.

The role that time plays in the process adds to the delicate and sophisticated procedure, as well as the weather conditions working magic (or havoc) on the grape plants. By storing good wine in a cool location, allowing time to stir the ingredients and lengthen the fermentation, which intensifies the flavors, you can enhance it to the point where the palate experiences an almost euphoric condition.

Due to this, both collectors and wine lovers seek out exceptionally good vintages of wine. When a rare bottle is put on the shelf with its siblings and emptied over the course of months and years, it can create a perfect storm of wine that is incredibly good and expensive to sell.

But it is difficult for many individuals to own expensive and exclusive wines from different remote locations across the world. That is when online wine auctions play their role. Online wine auctions are one of the smart ways to achieve and win expensive wines at an affordable price(based on your budget). As online wine auctions are based on the internet, the risk of fraud also increases. But there are various reliable and trustable platforms to host online wine auctions, but the most popular is Crurated. Crurated is known for hosting amazing and enjoyable online wine auctions. They provide a massive collection of expensive wines through their online wine auctions. Now no worries about online frauds with Crurated’s online wine auctions.

HIGHEST PRICED WINE EVER SOLD

Here are the top five most expensive wine bottles ever sold:

CHATEAU LAFITE’S 1869: Despite being valued at much to $60K per bottle, a Chateau Lafite’s 1869 bidding war for the expensive vintage led to a $230,000 purchase price for a standard-sized bottle at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong in 2010. The collector, who bought all three of the 1869 bottles offered for $690,000, was aware of the wine despite its age. It is the highest price anyone has ever been willing to pay for a standard-sized bottle of wine. The owner can slowly enjoy sipping the first two bottles while keeping the third bottle to everyone’s envy.

SHIPWRECKED 1907 HEIDSIECK: The 1907 Heidsieck champagne bottle, which was recovered from a Swedish freighter off the coast of Finland in 1998, comes in at number three. It was auctioned off and sold for up to £163,000 (about $275,000 US) at various sales. Two thousand of these bottles were indeed found. Still, the tale of the commissioned ship destroyed by a German submarine during World War I and headed for the Imperial Court of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia gives the more than a century-old flavor great historical significance.

1947 CHEVAL-BLANC: The 1947 French Cheval-Blanc retails for $304,375 and is the priciest bottle of wine ever sold. A private collector purchased the 67-year-old bottle in 2010 at a Geneva Christies auction. The Cheval Blanc has a class A status according to the Saint-Emilion wine classification, and out of all the merlot wines, only two were given this designation. The 1947 Saint-Emilion vintage was claimed to have legendary grapes between April and October. The only known bottle in the Imperial type from this vintage is a survivor that outlived many people.

SCREAMING EAGLE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 1992: The six-liter bottle of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 sold for a stunning half a million dollars (that’s right, folks, $500,000!) in 2000 at a Napa Valley charity auction is the exception to the dated rule of rare wine, as it was not nearly a decade old at the time of purchase! Although we have an asterisk* here (unlike Major League Baseball’s home run record book), because the $500K bottle was slightly discounted in price, it is rumored that Chase Bailey, a former Cisco Systems executive, picked up this bottle. It was only offered in 1995 for a brief length of time and apparently was the cat’s meow, at least to one wine connoisseur.

ROMANÉE-CONTI: This one is the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold, as well as the most expensive bottle of Burgundy. A collector bought it in 2018 from the estate of Robert Drouhin, one of the most illustrious people in Burgundy, at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. Burgundy is known for and reveres Domaine de la Romanée-vineyard Conti as the region’s pinnacle of remarkable wine quality. The 1945 vintage, known as “the unicorn vintage” since there were only 600 bottles produced, broke all previous records for the most expensive bottle of wine ever bought.

CONCLUSION

Two factors typically contribute to the cost of premium wines. First, pricier wines often have higher production costs. The cost of the raw materials can vary significantly; for example, a wine made from a low-yielding, renowned vineyard and fermented in brand-new oak barrels by a highly sought-after winemaking consultant won’t cost as much to make as one made from a high-yielding grape from an unknown vineyard fermented in a stainless steel tank. Second, pricey wines can be expensive. Therefore they often are. The concept of “perceived value” describes how a consumer’s willingness to pay affects the cost of a good or service. Certain wines are costly. Still, the demand never loses. That’s the luxury people carve for.
